Distract yourself with these easy Easter abstract art floral eggs!
Well, there’s quite a bit going on at the moment isn’t there. Understatement of the year? It’s completely all encompassing, and I don’t know about you, but Easter and crafting have been the last thing on my mind despite all this extra time at home in the evenings and weekends. When something this huge happens, the small things can feel a bit insignificant, and we might inadvertently stop doing some of the things that ground us and help us get through difficult times. So although on the one hand it felt a bit bizarre to be painting plastic eggs amidst a pandemic, on the other, I enjoyed it and it distracted me from the news and my own worry about the current situation. First of all, decide what colour you want your eggs to be. If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that I’m obsessed with dark green. So naturally, I decided to use dark green and a neutral beige colour.
Mix up your colours with acrylic paint, and using your first colour, paint a large irregular shape on each of your eggs. You can position this however you want and cover as much of the egg as you like.
Once this has dried, take your second colour, and paint another large irregular shape next to the first. I decided to have mine slightly overlapping, but again, you can do whatever you want.
Let both of these patches dry, and then using a pencil gently draw a flower. I positioned my flowers so that they were on top of my coloured shapes, and covered both colours as well as some of the white of the egg. Once happy with my flower design, I went over the pencil with a black fine liner.
To draw flowers like mine, start by drawing a small circle and filling this in. This is the centre of your flower. Next, draw a circle around this and fill it with dots. Draw an inversed scallop pattern around this circle. Draw five irregular shaped petals coming from the middle, with small gaps at the base in between, and add a few lines to the petals.
