How to create a faux ceramic pumpkin vase for an Autumn centrepiece in just a few steps!
It’s officially Autumn and time to start bringing out all things pumpkin shaped - if you missed it, last week I showed you how to make this cute pumpkin cushion - and this week I’m showing you how I made this really easy faux ceramic effect pumpkin-shaped vase!

I’m still struggling with the nausea and fatigue, so this project, which was easy and quick, was perfect for me to get my creative fix. All I used was a paper mache pumpkin that I bought premade, paint and of course baking powder. It didn’t take me long to make at all, and the most difficult part, which wasn’t even that difficult, was cutting out the top of the paper mache pumpkin. I love how it turned out, and think that this would make such a nice autumn centrepiece on a coffee table or dining table. You could even use this for decor at an autumn wedding, party or event.

Craft or Stanley Knife

First of all, grab a ready made paper mache pumpkin or make one yourself.
2.
Use a craft knife or stanley knife to cut out around the stem of the paper mache pumpkin. This will be the opening of your vase so make sure it’s big enough. Once you have cut all the way around, remove the stem and surround.

Mix up your chosen colour of paint with baking powder to create a frothy and thick textured paint.

Cover your paper mache pumpkin in a thick first layer of paint. I used this layer to smooth the surface and remove any bumps in the paper mache.

Once the first coat is dry, add a second but this time stipple the paint on to give a textured ceramic effect. Repeat this all over the pumpkin.

Leave this to dry and trim your artificial flowers to size before arranging them in the vase. If you want to use real flowers, add a jar of water to your vase first and then add your real flowers.
